If you would like to test the facial animations generated by Faceware Studio, you are able to use the Live Client Version 2.0, which runs on Windows, Mac and Linux (without needing the Faceware Plugin). Our live client gives you a customizable workspace in Unreal Engine to select the desired avatar and its settings (including sex) before recording the Facial Animation. You are able to adjust the over-all animation speed from 0.1 seconds up to 30 seconds in increments, and you can also pick how many frames before and after to set the inbetween frames as shown in the montage (it defaults to 10 frames, which we think is pretty fast) below. Although most of our clients are Windows, the Client runs on all modern platforms, so if you're looking for a way to animate using facial animation, it's worth seeing.
If you use a Perception Neuron set, you can record the Facial Animation and also Body Mocap simultaneously. Since the Face Mocap is captured using a 3D camera, you don’t need the separate mask that would be needed for a mustache or a beard. The Facial Mocap also doesn’t need to have any marker that you would need to set up in the Animator to get the blinks and smiles to lay perfectly on a model.
We use Faceware at work as well, and we really like it. It's really easy to frame each sequence of the animation, to decide on the details, to decide on how the lip smacks should look, to check how things are going while recording, and to make tweaks.
Faceware Live 2.5 introduces many new features, including a new touchscreen with 2D zoom, extension, and eraser. Faceware added a pixel-based LUT as well, improving the appearance of B/W or grayscale videos.
iClone's Facial Animation Engine was originally created at Ubisoft Montreal as a tool for game animation. Since its first introduction to iClone in 2005, Faceware's software has been used to create, import, and animate thousands of facial expressions. d2c66b5586
