Chung subsequently sought to resume her career, but TVB insisted that she is not allowed to resume filming until she has had the operation.[32] Chung's recovery progressed well, and she returned to the set in December 2008. However, her mastectomy operation lasted 3 hours.[33] Chung resumed filming the TVB drama Charming Mr. Tang in March 2009, while filming a photo spread for the fourth issue of Marie Claire magazine, which was published in May 2009.[34] On 7 December 2009, Chung returned to the set of Charming Mr. Tang.[35] On 15 March 2010, she was chosen to endorse Sanig lipsticks.[36] She made her comeback to films in October 2010. In 2010, Chung was allegedly being kept under the care of Dr. Samuel Cheung (Siu Hung) at the time of the deaths of her mother and actress Wu Chiu-ling. Chung has not been seen in public since then.[30] Dr. Cheung is a brain surgeon and also the husband of Hong Kong actress and singer Charlene Choi. Cheung was sued for allegedly offering to use his medical skills to restore Chung's beauty (her left eye is believed to have sustained a stroke), though Chung's aunt denied that Chung was Cheung's patient. In the wake of the controversy, Chuang did not appear on stage and did not appear in any photo shoots. Chung was also said to be staying at Cheung's clinic for about five months.[31]
Chung's first Mainland China film, Love Me If You Can, premiered on August 13, 2010, at the Shanghai International Film Festival.[26] Chung plays a student who gets to know a male psychiatrist (Andy Lau) in a mental hospital, where he shares his secret love for the student. In May 2011, Chung attended the Cannes Film Festival with her boyfriend Mike Lai. She posed for a photo with Johnny Depp in the film and the photo was disseminated via the Internet.[27] She later told all netizens and fans that she did not mind the attention and that she had enjoyed sharing a photo with him, as well as the many comments and compliments the photo received.
On 19 September 2008, Chung filed a police complaint against Easy Finder''s publisher Jimmy Lai for violating her privacy by publishing her private parts without her consent. On 15 March 2010, Chung's lawyer Andrew Man Ho-ying filed for compensation for his client's mental and physical stress, citing that she suffered from anxiety and depression. The court did not accept Chung's claim that the photos had caused her emotional stress, and ruled that she was responsible for not filing a suit earlier. When Chung appealed to the Court of Appeal, she was accompanied by two lawyers, but the appeal was dismissed in 2011.[35] 827ec27edc
